Well, if you haven’t heard already, Hale #3 arrived yesterday at 11:58 am. Samuel Wayne Hale was born 6 lbs, 1 oz, and 19 1/4 inches long. He’s an exceptional young man!
He tests well already, having passed both Apgar and hearing tests with flying colors. He’s working on being a regular Hale, eating well and sleeping better. I joked yesterday that if God wants to call this Samuel in the middle of the night, God better bring his A-game!
Big brother Ben and big sister Ellie are very excited. Ellie is, we think, secretly relieved to remain the only girl. Ben told us last night on the phone that if Sam wouldn’t be up for another hour so he could talk to him, then Ben would just stay on the phone until he woke up! They’re both excited to share all of their hard-earned big sibling knowledge with Sam.
We’re 3 for 3 on “the OB who follows us through the pregnancy not actually delivering the baby” score. Fortunately, we knew Dr Gei, who is the Director of Obstetrics for The Methodist Hospital; so when Sam moved very quickly and Dr Law wasn’t here in time, we were in good hands. Besides having his own sense of timing, Sam’s got great lungs and likes to use them frequently…mostly to remind us we need to get with the program and take care of business. If he grows up to preach, we’ll look back on this and say, “It all started here!” He’s also tricking the nursery out of extra snuggle time with Mom, so if he grows up to be a con artist, we’ll look back on this too…
We’ve had several friends who have visited, lots of family, and a bazillion people who have been praying, congratulating, and giving thanks through email, Facebook, and Twitter! We really appreciate all of your encouragement; check out this excellent birth announcement from The Virtual Abbey!
